As we quickly approach another election, I want to give you one piece of advice that has been very helpful to me. Here it is. You ready?
“Don’t vote the issues that are important to you, but rather, vote the issues that are important to God!”
Did you get that? Don’t vote the issues that are important to you, vote the issues that are important to God. We are living in an extremely chaotic moment in history. We have all this stuff going on over here- brokenness, chaos, confusion. We’re not exactly sure what it holds and then over here we are headed toward a national election that just makes it that much worse. It’s hard to know in the middle of all of this exactly what we should do and as a Christian, I’ll be honest with you, I’ve struggled with exactly how to navigate all
of the issues that we have on the table right now.
Here’s what I’m trying to do and what I encourage you to do, not
just with the election, but with all of the issues that we deal within our lives, we need to strive to think Biblically! Not emotionally, that’s what we always tend to do, not culturally allowing others to tell us what to do and certainly not politically. We need to strive to think Biblically and ask the question, “In all that is being presented to me,
what is it that God would have me to do?” I understand there are no perfect candidates. There are no perfect issues. This is certainly not a perfect moment in time. But as I look at the issues that we are being presented with right now, which are the ones that God really cares about and who are the people I can get behind that are in line, at least to the greatest extent possible, with what God would desire to see done? I have been trying to work through this myself, and I thought I would put together a short video series just this
week called simply “A Christians guide to voting.”
I’m not going to tell you who to vote for or what to vote for but there are some issues I believe are important to God and as we look down the road and ask the question, “Who should we vote for?” this has to be a part of the conversation.
I hope it’s a help and an encouragement to you. As we sign off for today getting ready for tomorrow, here it is: “Don’t vote the issues that are important to you, vote the issues that are important to God.”
