As David the Psalmist considered all that was happening in his world, he made the following statement framed as a question:

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?-Psalm 11:3

At a difficult time, when the world around him seemed to be falling apart, David (who would soon become the King of Israel) understood that nothing can last if the foundations are destroyed. More specifically he understood that only when righteous foundations are in place can righteous people survive. This verse may be meaningful to you right now, as it is to me, as you look around and see a world that appears to be absolutely falling apart. Perhaps, again if you are like me, you have asked yourself; “with things as they are, what can I do?”

You can focus on the foundation.

Focus on the foundation of your spiritual life.

Focus on the foundation of your relational life.

Focus on the foundation of your financial life.

Focus on the foundation of your physical (health) life.

Uncertainty brings fear and a lack of control brings uncertainty. In order to keep fear at bay and continue to make good forward progress you need to stop focusing on the things that you cannot control and instead put your time, energy, and resources into the things that you can. Focus on the foundations.

The implied statement in David’s question in Psalm 11:3 is that if the foundation are strong then the righteous, those who are seeking to live according to God’s law, will be ok. That is an eternal truth. Focus on what matters most, the foundation, and God will take care of the rest.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
